The second bi-annual visit to our Twin Club - 2000 miles away in Vera, Almeria, Spain was once again organised to enable the Beccles contingent to attend the Vera Lions Charter Anniversary Evening.
The visits are funded by the Lions personally, but all agree that using the event as an opportunity for a weeks holiday is an excellent idea and we are always warmly welcomed by the host Club.
Taking place at the beginning of October the weather in Spain can be unpredictable, but we were lucky (after some terrible storms during the latter part of September) to benefit from very warm conditions, with no rain at all.
Apart from the Charter Night on the Friday and a day out in Almeria organised for us by Vera Lions on the Thursday, our “Team Leader” - Lion Chris Lambert, had organised a full programme of excursions during the rest of the week. We were based, once again, in Mojacar (pronounced Mo-hac-ar) from where we set off to such places as Garracha, Castril, Lake Negratin, Totana, Aguilas and a visit to Vera itself for the Saturday Market finishing up for Sunday Lunch at a hillside Complex - Desert Springs.
Overall, we saw some wonderful places and experienced some terrific Spanish food, with all agreeing the the visit had been a resounding success.
The story of our twinning can be found in the earlier event report several stories back and no - we do not know who the young lady is between Carolyn Lambert and Geoff Moulton in the photo!
